Mote is developing a first-of-a-kind technology for woody waste biomass that removes CO2 from the air and produces clean hydrogen to help the world meet climate goals, improve air quality, and reduce wildfires.  We are developing large-scale projects based on our innovative and groundbreaking process to safely and permanently sequester carbon underground, and we are looking for standout individuals who are driven by reversing climate change to join our growing team, to help build our company, and to contribute to our culture. 

The Strategy / Business Development team is responsible for shaping the future of the company through creating industry partnerships and securing commercial partners for Mote’s facilities.  We are responsible for generating leads, understanding industry trends, cultivating relationships, scoping and applying for grants and other funding opportunities, and negotiating commercial contracts.  We are a group of innovative thinkers, informed and detail-oriented, yet able to take a step back and make holistic assessments, applying our skills at both the corporate and project levels.

The Business Development Manager will be directly responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and contracting MOUs, LOIs, and ultimately commercial agreements for hydrogen offtake, carbon removal credits, carbon dioxide offtake, and other kinds of partnerships.  This role is responsible for identifying and soliciting new business to build and maintain a full pipeline of sales prospects.   

Responsibilities

  • Work through company-provided leads to progress existing relationship and create new leads to initiate conversations with strategic partners, ultimately resulting in investment, offtake, project partnerships or other mutually beneficial goals.
  • Own the customer relationship from first meeting through contract execution, this includes managing the cadence of the meetings, redlining contracts, coordination with internal team (executive, technical, finance, legal) to ensure accuracy in contracts, and leading negotiations with the customer.
  • Identify client needs and suggest terms of partnership that are mutually beneficial
  • Prepare tailored term sheets for offtake after consulting with internal finance team
  • Input customer data in CRM, track development, and summarize/present key leads for executive team periodically
  • Attend and speak at industry conference on behalf of Mote to gain exposure and create new industry contacts
  • Research new regions, states, countries for future projects, build relationships required to secure landowners, offtakers, project partners, and create a strong pipeline of projects
  • Utilize funding and grant opportunities as a platform to further develop new and existing relationships through collaboration on grant applications and grant projects 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in energy, renewable energy industry, or carbon removal
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with contract review and negotiation required
  • Previous knowledge of hydrogen, carbon sequestration and/or CDR sales required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Email correspondence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant 4-year Bachelor’s degree (engineering, business, etc.)
  • Able to create opportunities 
  • Highly self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Able to set goals, meet deadlines, provide timely email responses and effectively and professionally communicate
  • Ideal candidate can work independently but has the skills to collaborate with the team as needed
  • Creative thinker who can find elegant solutions to multiple problems

Pay and Benefits

At Mote, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow within a role.  Your base pay depends on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Employees are also eligible for stock options, including merit bonuses.
