The Project Team is responsible for the safe design, construction and start-up of Mote carbon negative hydrogen production facilities with minimal or no changesIn collaboration with community representatives and authorities, contractors and consultants, suppliers, and other Mote teams, the Project Team will strive to exceed project quality, schedule and cost objectives. 

Mote is planning its first facility in Kern County, California, with the front-end design and permitting of the plant both expected to kick-off in early 2024. An important initial focus is working with the FEED contractor and other specialized third parties to develop a suitable renewable energy supply plan for the facility.  The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the technical aspects of the facility, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager. 

Mote is located in Los Angeles, CA but the position will require significant time at contractors’ offices (3 months or longer) and the project site.

Responsibilities 

Provide leadership and guidance to contractors’ electrical engineering efforts.  Assist the Project Engineering Manager and Project Team as needed with various technical and project execution / coordination tasks, such as: 

  • Being an HSE champion  

  • Being Mote’s technical representative towards the power developers, FEED, and later, the EPC contractors with respect to the electrical scope  

  • Facilitating high contractor performance along safety, scope, quality and schedule vectors  

  • Working with the FEED Contractor as they develop a credible renewable power supply strategy with supplemental or back-up power from the grid   

  • Providing technical assessment of FEED Contractor’s design of on-site power generation utilizing waste heat and surplus offgas 

  • Providing technical assessment of FEED Contractor’s feasibility study to replace diesel engine-driven standby or back-up equipment with battery-powered equipment  

  • Assisting contractor with realistic assumptions for their key studies, such as Load Flow, Short Circuit, and Large Motor Starting  

  • Managing the close-out of action items and the timely review of contractor documents, such as  

  • Electrical hazardous area classification drawings  

  • Single line diagrams and cable routing studies  

  • Specifications and plans such as grounding and lighting

  • Performing or assisting with the performance of ad-hoc technical or supply chain studies as they may arise 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Must act with the highest degree of professionalism, responsibility and ethics

    • Frequent and lengthy business travel likely for working meetings with contractors, suppliers, utilities and other third parties  

    • Experience with California electricity regulations  

    • Experience with utility-scale renewable power systems  

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering 

    • Experience with utility grid connections 

    • Familiarity with design quality assurance principles and experience applying quality control measures  

    • Successful project execution experience in electrical engineering or electrical project management roles 

    • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills in a professional environment.  

    • Good organizational skills  

    • Ability to communicate effectively and compose professional emails
