The Project Team is responsible for the safe design, construction and start-up of Mote carbon negative hydrogen production facilities with minimal or no changesIn collaboration with community representatives and authorities, contractors and consultants, suppliers, and other Mote teams, the Project Team will strive to exceed project quality, schedule and cost objectives.

Mote is planning its first facility in Kern County, California, with front-end design and permitting of the plant both expected to kick-off in early 2024.  The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical aspects of the facility, reporting to Project Management.  

Mote is located in Los Angeles, CA but the position will require significant time at contractors’ offices (6 months or longer) and the project site. 

Responsibilities  

Provide overall leadership and management of contractors’ engineering activities.  Assist the Project Manager and Project Team as needed with various technical and project execution tasks, such as:  

  • Being an HSE champion  

  • Being Mote’s technical representative towards the FEED - and later the EPC - contractor, as well as project-related third parties  

  • Knowing the contract(s), managing the scope of work and leading the activities of the Mote engineering team  

  • Facilitating high contractor performance along safety, scope, quality and schedule vectors  

  • Fulfilling the mechanical engineering and piping roles on the Mote team  

  • Reviewing equipment vendor quotes, drawings / submittals and facility technical documents and providing redlines and comments   

  • Coordinating with Mote’s Construction, Operating and Maintenance representatives  

  • Assisting in the set-up and administration / maintenance of the project document management system, including tracking and expediting documents for review  

  • Planning and reporting project execution progress, issues and recommended courses of action  

  • Proactively managing risks and facilitating learning lessons  

  • Closing out, archiving and otherwise handing over the project / data  

  • Participating in staffing and performance activities  

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Must act with the highest degree of professionalism, responsibility and ethics.  

  • Successful experience in mechanical or piping engineering and project engineering roles; success in engineering management or project management positions a plus  

  • Familiarity with design quality assurance principles and experience applying quality control measures 

  • Experience in the Hydrogen industry and knowledge of applicable codes and standards    

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with gasification, material handling and syngas preferred 

  • Bachelor's degree as a minimum is preferred, in a technical field of study seems best suited 

  • Self-motivated, leadership characteristics, ability to manage a diverse, potentially scattered, team 

  • Good organizational, prioritizing and persuasive skills  

  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills in a professional environment  

  • Ability to communicate effectively and compose professional emails 

  • Working-level competence with MS-Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; advanced basic skill-level utilizing Goggle Earth and its built-in tools a plus
